How Can You Access The Calanques?

You can reach most calanques by hiking or taking a boat. The most popular hiking route starts at the Port Miou or Port Pin and leads to Calanque d'En-Vau, taking about 2-3 hours depending on your pace and the chosen route. Alternatively, boat tours from Marseille or Cassis can take you close to the calanques, allowing you to enjoy the views and swim in the secluded coves.

Kayaking is another rewarding approach. Rentals are available in Cassis and allow you to explore at your own pace, but be prepared for an upper body workout as you glide past the limestone cliffs.

Which Calanques Should You Visit?

Calanque d'En-Vau is arguably the most breathtaking calanque, famous for its turquoise waters and steep cliffs. How to Get There and What to Bring

To get to The Calanques, ride the metro to the Castellane station in Marseille, then catch a bus to Cassis or directly to calanques such as Sormiou. Expect travel times of around 30-45 minutes.

When planning your day, bring plenty of water (around 2-3 liters), snacks, sunscreen, and sturdy hiking shoes. Entry is free to the park, but boat rentals can be around 25-50 EUR per person, depending on the duration.

One Warning From Experience

Summer can be extremely hot in this region, frequently exceeding 30°C. Be aware that from mid-June to mid-September, certain areas succumb to fire restrictions, closing sections of the park. Arrive early to avoid the crowds, especially on weekends and during French holidays.
